Many of our Lafayette, Walnut Creek, and East Bay patients come to us managing conditions that have gone underdiagnosed or undermanaged — often after years of inconclusive primary care visits or difficulty accessing a specialist.

Complex Hormone Conditions Require a Specialist — Not a Generalist

Early intervention is critical, and our practice is built around precise lab interpretation, the highest level of endocrine expertise, and long-term strategy.

A Direct, Specialty Care Model for Residents of Lafayette and Surrounding Communities

In the Bay Area, a new endocrinology patient can wait 4–6 months to see a specialist — and the appointment, when it finally happens, is typically 15 rushed minutes. At UCSF, Stanford, or John Muir, that tends to be the standard. It's not nearly enough time to address complex hormone conditions, and it's not how we practice. Our direct access model means:

  1. Extended 60–75 minute visits

  2. In-depth lab review

  3. Proactive prevention planning

  4. Direct physician access

  5. Coordination with your other specialists

No referral barriers. No insurance restrictions. No rushed care.

Dr. Makhija & Lafayette Origins

Endocrinologist reviewing medical information with patient during in-office consultation and personalized hormone care visit in lafayette

Unified Endocrine & Diabetes Care is among the first direct-care endocrinology and lifestyle medicine practices in California. Our Lafayette office didn't begin with a business plan — it began with a conversation. At a Lifestyle Medicine conference, Dr. Makhija met a retired surgeon who had pivoted from bypass surgery to prevention, asking a harder question: why weren't we doing more to stop heart attacks before they happened? He had built a prevention-focused practice in Lafayette and, hearing about Dr. Makhija’s mission with endocrinology care, offered his office space and encouraged her to bring that same philosophy to the East Bay.

What she found confirmed the decision. Close-knit communities, patients who were proactively engaged in their health, and a real gap in specialist endocrinology access across Contra Costa County. Dr. Makhija joined the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, began collaborating with Lamorinda Strong and Lamorinda Gynecology & Obstetrics, and has led community education on insulin resistance, GLP-1 medications, and diabetes prevention throughout the region.
