Endocrinologist in Fresno, CA — Expert Hormone, Diabetes & Metabolic Care in Central Valley
Central Valley carries one of California's highest burdens of diabetes, insulin resistance, and metabolic disease — and has historically had limited access to specialist-level endocrine care. Dr. Chhaya Makhija established Unified Endocrine & Diabetes Care in Fresno in 2021 to address that need directly and provide highly specialized, prevention-focused care.

Complex Hormone Conditions Require a Specialist — Not a Generalist
Fresno, Clovis, and Central Valley residents face disproportionately high rates of type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and metabolic disease. Many arrive here after years of managing symptoms through a primary care lens — without the specialist-level evaluation their condition requires.
Fresno and Clovis patients are seen in person at our N. Fresno Street office. Patients from Visalia, Hanford, Bakersfield, Tulare County, the Sierra foothills, and beyond are seen in person or via telehealth.
Direct, Specialized Care for Residents of Fresno, Clovis, and Surrounding Central Valley
Endocrinology specialists are scarce in the Central Valley. Most patients with complex hormone or metabolic conditions are managed by primary care — not because that's the right level of care, but because there's no accessible alternative. Unified Endocrine & Diabetes Care was established in Fresno specifically to close that gap. Our direct access model means:
Extended 60–75 minute visits
In-depth lab review
Proactive prevention planning
Direct physician access
Coordination with your other specialists
No referral barriers. No insurance restrictions. No rushed care.
Dr. Makhija’s Roots in Fresno
Fresno wasn't assigned to Dr. Makhija — she chose it. After her fellowship at the University of Nebraska, she visited in 2013, walked through the Japanese Garden at Woodward Park, watched a peacock mid-display, and made her decision. She moved in 2015, joined UCSF Fresno as volunteer faculty, and in 2019 became founding course director for the Endocrine and Reproductive Medicine curriculum at California Health Sciences University — the first medical school of its kind in Central California. She established Unified Endocrine & Diabetes Care in 2021.
The practice reflects where it was built. The office carries art from local farmers market artists, Dr. Makhija organized monthly community walks and free diabetes screenings at Woodward Park, and patient gifts are sourced from Central Valley farms and vendors. This level of integration took a decade — and it's why patients travel from Visalia, Bakersfield, and Mammoth Lakes to be seen here. As a triple board-certified endocrinologist and lifestyle medicine specialist with nearly two decades of clinical and academic experience, she brings that same depth of expertise to every patient she sees.
